(noun) Is the person who decides what they (the chorus) will sing and how they sing it. He/she usually conducts as well.
David Codd first joined the Chorus in 1978 having read an article in a Readers Digest magazine. I found out that The Heart of England Chorus in Leicester was the nearest to me and I just walked in off the street on their practice night’
The welcome I received was fantastic and so friendly. When I saw the members turning up I have to admit that I was a little unsure about the whole thing as collectively, they didn’t impress me as members of a chorus. Not at all what I had in my mind!
Through various changes in the club, I moved from being a Baritone to Musical Director (MD) when the then MD left. For personal reasons I left the club for a 10 year gap, although I did become with a ladies choir for a few years.
I attended the Barbershop Musical Directors College to improve my knowledge and technique and re-joined The Heart of England Chorus in January 2010 as MD.
I believe there is no better hobby that is so rewarding. I encourage comedy and fun, as well as hard work to sing confidently, with discipline, accuracy and enjoyment, so that our performance is enjoyed by both the audience and the chorus members alike.
